About the Owners

Philippine Maillard grew up in the heart of the Champagne region in Reims, France, where her life was steeped in the world of wine and hospitality. Immersed in her family’s legacy, Philippine’s mother, Caroline Maillard, crafts Champagne, while her grandparents, Pascal and Jacqueline Maillard, ran one of the largest bars in Champagne for over 30 years. Her father, Karl Bourguignon, a wine enthusiast and entrepreneur, curates a cellar of over 1,000 wines from across France.

Eager to explore beyond her hometown, Philippine embarked on a one-month trip to visit her best friend, Marie, in Nashville. During her stay, she fell in love not only with the United States but also with Marie’s colleague, Alexandre Meunier.

Alexandre’s background is equally rich in the world of wine. Raised between Paris and its suburbs, he grew up under the influence of his father, Christian Meunier, who fell in love with Bordeaux wines. Christian’s career took him and his family from France to Brazil, Canada, and finally Nashville. Alexandre accumulated over eight years of experience in the service industry and developed a deep passion for wine.

When Philippine and Alexandre met, it was love at first sight. What began as a one-month visit turned into a three-month “voyage d’amour,” with the couple unable to bear the distance between them. Inspired by their shared passion and the recent closure of the Authentique, they seized the opportunity to launch their own venture. Together, they have transformed the Authentique into a reflection of their love and expertise, creating a unique haven for wine enthusiasts.
