A sommelier-guided journey through the vineyards of Italy — from sparkling Prosecco to the noble Nebbiolo of Barolo. Five iconic regions, five unforgettable wines.
Our Italian wine flight, ready for tasting
On Tuesday evening, we gathered at The Authentique for an Italian wine tasting that took us through five of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions. Each glass told a story of terroir, tradition, and the Italian passion for winemaking.
The Wines We Tasted
1. Prosecco — Veneto
We started with bubbles — a crisp Prosecco from the Veneto region. Made from the Glera grape using the Charmat method, this sparkling wine showed bright green apple and honeysuckle with a refreshingly crisp finish. The perfect aperitif to start the evening.
2. Pinot Grigio — Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Our Pinot Grigio from Friuli-Venezia Giulia delivered zesty citrus, white peach, and a beautiful minerality. This is Pinot Grigio at its finest — nothing like the mass-produced versions. Friuli produces some of Italy’s most elegant white wines, and this bottle was a perfect example.
3. Chianti Classico — Tuscany
Our first red was a Chianti Classico made from Sangiovese, the soul of Tuscany. Aromas of tart red cherry, dried oregano, and a savory balsamic note reminded us why this wine has been paired with Italian cuisine for centuries. A classic that never disappoints.
4. Barolo — Piedmont
The “King of Wines” did not disappoint. Our Barolo, made from 100% Nebbiolo in the hills of Piedmont, showed the classic markers: tar, roses, truffle, and licorice. Despite its pale garnet color, this wine packed incredible structure and complexity — a testament to why Barolo is considered one of Italy’s greatest wines.
5. Amarone della Valpolicella — Veneto
We finished with the rich, opulent Amarone della Valpolicella — made from dried grapes using the traditional appassimento method in the Veneto. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, and sweet spice filled the glass. A wine of remarkable concentration and warmth, the perfect finale to our Italian journey.

Pair It with Charcuterie
Every tasting pairs beautifully with our house-sliced charcuterie and cheese boards. Italian reds like Chianti and Barolo are natural partners for aged cheeses and cured meats.
